Amtrak NPCU 406/90406 Pictures

This Non-Powered Control Unit is ex-Amtrak F40PH-2 406 (EMD 877008-6, b/d 7/88) and is repainted in Heritage colors (phase 3). The prime mover was repurposed to serve as head end power for the 40th anniversary train by removing the powered trucks and putting all of the power from the prime mover into the head end power (approx. 2.2 MW). This also allowed them to shut down the power engine while the train was on display. This unit is now renumbered to 90406 and frequently runs on the Downeaster trains.
