The SD39 series was built between August of 1968 and May of 1970, weighs 360,000 lbs and uses a 645E3 12 cylinder diesel prime mover that develops 2300 hp, and 90,000 lb of tractive effort, and carries 3200 gallons of fuel. My thanks to The Diesel Shop for the information.
Pan Am only had four of these locomotives and only one was surviving when I began taking pictures.
